Just a little something is coming for 2026, that we are regarding as a little special. Our new coated hook baits, also known as The Edge.
What is it? and how does it work?
We are pretty sure that most carp anglers are aware of coating their own hook baits in some form of liquid and possible powders, giving them a shake in a bucket to soak it all up then doing again a few days later...so right there we wont teach you how to suck eggs.
However, The Edge coated hook baits are a little different in approach to being made. Primarily the entire thing is based around a boilie, and then thats where it stops. The process that follows is made up of 'growing' a natural ingredient over the bait for a few days, then over time manually coating attractor powders, seeds and other liquids, along with more 'growing' to create a substantially powerful and layered bait.
Once it hits the water, the effect of attraction is imminent. That thick outer attractive layer is flooded with water and peels away quickly to float up and around the now revealed inner boilie for the fish to pick up. (see image below) There is a reaction that almost seems to displace the water. In our test we found the particles rising around the bait were causing the water to circulate mildly. It was astonishing.
Over the course of this year/season since as recently as May, this bait strategy if you will has gone from strength to strength. Using a single Edge coated bait with only 5-6 free offerings of the standard boilies around the hookbait area, it was found that even on the tricky water where its been tested, this method worked superbly and has seemed to gradually single out the better fish. Out of 13 fish hooked using this method (counted to October 2025), 10 were banked in 8 day sessions - yes, day sessions of 8 -12 hrs max. The title pic above proves this coated bait & baiting method works, avoiding the need for kilos and kilos of bait killing a swim - which does happen.
What 'flavour' is The Edge?
The Edge 'flavour' is generic across all 3 of our bottom baits: Squid InQ, Live -X and J-Mix. However the only difference is the final outer coat or dusting, which relates to the base mix of the aforementioned bait flavours. However, the coating between the boilie and the final outer coat (the brown layering in the image) is a mixture of attractive ingredients found in many carp baits, with additional ingredients that will benefit the carp long term.
The conclusion for us is that we know this is an attractive method of baiting . It starts working for you as soon as it hits the water. The speed of which it catches is still a little unknown. But as its only been tested on day sessions AND on a tricky water with good sized fish, we figure that in itself is conclusive and speaks for itself. Whether or not the responses would be different during overnight sessions still remain to be seen. But either way, we reckon you wont be needing coffee to stay awake.
